The Greenhouse Effect

The Greenhouse Effect

The 21st century is a century of progress but also a century of huge environment pollution. The greenhouse effect is a serious testimony of environmental disaster. The gradual warming of the temperature of the air surrounding the mother earth as a result of heat being trapped by environment pollution is termed as ‘Greenhouse Effect’. Excessive use of carbon-di-oxide is worsening the situation and thus heat cannot pass through the atmosphere. As a result, temperature is increasing rapidly. Most climatologists believe the greenhouse effect is the likely cause of this global warming. The cause of greenhouse effect is the destruction of tropical rain forests, the rapid urbanization and industrialization, the use of CFC’s and detergents etc. The oceans, the rivers, the open fields and the atmosphere are being polluted by man. The burning of fossil fuels and the widespread use of chemicals has threatened our existence. The result of the greenhouse effect is terrifying. Temperatures may rise by as much as 4°C by the next 50 years which could flood the coastal areas of Bangladesh and many other low-lying countries. As a result, it can seriously destroy our wild life and wilderness, rise in sea levels, and sharp fall in the crop production. The bottom line is that the greenhouse effect is a serious environmental disaster and we must stop deforestation and massive emission of carbon-di-oxide to avoid this damage.
